Activities at The Foundation for Learning

At The Foundation for Learning, we stress hands on learning

The Foundation for Learning emphasizes structure and academics, and constant mental stimulation. Because we have a low teacher to student ratio, our children are given a great deal of one on one attention and help.

Computers

Each classroom at The Foundation for Learning has its own computer station. Children learn how to use the computer while playing on them. While playing at enjoyable games, children at the same time learn basic computer skills, keyboard knowledge and pre-school academic content.

Music and movement

Children are encouraged to be silly as well as creative as they dance and sing to a variety of musical numbers geared for kids. Our dance and music classes are taught by specialists who are brought in to teach those subjects.

In our center based classrooms at The Foundation For Learning, each child moves freely around the classroom. Some of the centers at the school include

Activities
  • physical fitness
  • math
  • reading
  • writing
  • science
  • art
  • computers
  • music
  • social studies

Language skill development

Because our teachers are trained to talk with the children about their play, their environment is language rich. We label all centers with both words and pictures. As the children mature, they learn first from real objects, then pictures, and then letter and word recognition. In many of the learning centers there are writing materials where children make their first efforts at learning to write.

We teach children listening skills.

In order to learn and to understand other people, children need to know how to listen. As the teachers listen to the children in an accepting and nurturing manner, children learn to listen to each other and to themselves.

By learning to listen, our students learn about their feelings and about social interaction. By learning to first listen and then question, they develop the critical ability to challenge what is said and to evaluate the information they receive.

Motor skills

At the learning center, children learn gross and fine motor skills. Our staff constantly presents kids with tasks requiring the use of emerging motor skills in the centers as well as on the playground.

The teachers at The Foundation For Learning take their jobs very seriously and help you to be involved in your child's academic experiences.

The teachers send out every other month a newsletter explaining what your child is working on daily. Each week the staff focus on a main theme in each class and within that week all academic skills are based around that main theme. The teacher plans many educational lessons as an extension of the main theme.
