Infant Classroom at The Foundation for Learning

At The Foundation for Learning, our goal is to create a home-like environment in which infants can grow, develop, and learn.

We believe that each baby is unique; therefore they have their own needs. Our staff is focused on individualizing their child care methods by:

Working with parents to set up a feeding, sleeping, and diapering schedule
Working with parents to ensure that every child is working towards accomplishing the appropriate development milestones.
Providing each child with their own crib and mobile
Providing each child with their own cubbie and family mailbox
Providing each child with a daily record sheet of what their child did

The experiences that infants have during the early months and years are crucial to healthy brain development. From birth, infants show a wide variety of physical, social and emotional capabilities. Our infant curriculum provides each child with the attention they need to develop physically, socially, and emotionally.

Physical

Your child will learn to sit up unassisted, crawl, and to walk with help and support of the teachers.
Your child will learn to begin the process of self feeding as they become ready, which helps to develop fine motor skills.
Your child will be encouraged to spend time on the tummies for development of gross motor skills.
Your child will begin to switch from using reflexes to controlling muscle movements.

Social

Your child will learn to interact and relate to both teachers and peers.
Your child will learn to use facial expressions, movements, and vocalizations.
Your child will learn that they can affect others through their actions.

Emotional

Your child will begin to develop bonds with teachers and peers.
Your child will begin to recognize teachers and peers.
Your child will learn to regulate their emotions.
Your child will learn to use movements and language to express their emotions.

Language

Your child will communicate using sounds, facial expressions, and body movements.
Your child will learn to use sign language to communicate their needs.
Your child will begin responding by smiling, waving, kicking, and turning their heads.
Your child will begin using easy words such as: mama, dada, bye-bye

Cognition

As your child’s vision and grasp increases they will begin to focus and explore objects.
Your child will use their hands and mouths to explore object properties such as hard, soft, rough, smooth, big, and little.
As your child experiences predictable routines they will begin to anticipate events such as, a teacher picking up a diaper means that a child will be changed soon.
Your child will begin to understand cause and effect such as; I drop my cup then my teacher/parent will pick it up.
Your child will begin to question the world around them. For example, they will frequently hand you an object as a way of asking a question about the object.

Our infant classroom prides itself on providing lots of personal attention and interaction between the teachers and the children.

Our curriculum includes a diversity of activities to stimulate the child’s interest: music, art, sensory, dramatic play, gross motor time, and fine motor time. We are committed to providing a cozy and safe environment for you children and look forward to working cooperatively with you and your child(ren).
